After watching fans constantly act like the previous coach who won the most playoff series in franchise history was the worst coach in the league, I'm convinced that there is a segment of fans who just think every Rangers coach and GM is a moron. I'd tell them, don't worry I'm sure the next guy will be a moron too.

Quinn isn't perfect and it will a strike against him if he's totally his decision to keep Ruff, but I'm actually with you. He's done more positive than negative.

No coach is going to be liked for every decision they make. So far I think Quinn is the right coach, could that change, possibly. Bunch of players have thrived under Quinn.

Jd, Gorton, and Quinn are doing great!
Perfect? Of course not, but they all seem to be on the same page, and the players have bought in, as well.

Quinn's coaching style is effective too! He has benched rooks and vets alike, and Everytime he done so, the players have responded. Smith, ADA, Kakko, and Staal all bounced back after the benchings. He's a caring, tough coach who the players respect and seem to like.

Keeping Kreider, although risky, financially, needed to be done. His style meshes with Quinn's style and his leadership is much needed. The next few years, especially when Hank and Staal are off the books will be very telling.

Let's go Rangers!!!!!

Solid coach, I would be happy with him if he were across the river.

Players were told on a recent call, the salary cap will stay flat at $81.5 million for next season. #NHL #NHLPA

Now the question becomes is their a free buyout and if so, can we use that for Shatty's dead money? If not we are in some doodoo.

Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun

NHLPA spokesman says that’s not accurate. That no decision has been made yet on next year’s cap.
My own take: as I wrote a few weeks ago, freezing the cap a few years at the current number or close to it is possible, yes. But not decided yet.

It's going to be an awful year to be a UFA

Could just walk away from someone likes Strome's arbitration number.

Idea for a blog this week, but if cap is $81.5 million, as reported by Andy Strickland and noted as a possibility by Pierre LeBrun, then what?

I have seen these ideas:

- trade Smith to Ottawa
- conventionally buyout Staal
- amnesty Hank, or if buying Staal and/or dealing Smith, keep Hank
- trade Georgiev anyways, replace him with a cheap UFA backup or package him to acquire a top-four left d-man

I also said Trouba could be an option to buyout. In addition, if allowable, wipe out the $6 mil of dead space from Kevin Shattenkirk on the books.

Give me your ideas and I will include in a blog....

Try to trade Smith, if Strome is asking for too much, walk away. Tell Hank he will be a 3rd string goalie barring an injury, that situation might resolve it self.

Stop Buying Players Out!!!!! Seriously, how much dead (frank)ing cap do we want.

Although it might actually be the right decision in terms of long term assets/dead money, you know the fanbase would burn if the team did something like that.

this has never affected me before...see my Kreider addiction

But for real, it comes to losing him or Tony D because of the cap staying flat, Strome can walk

I actually think if we amnesty a roster player, it'll be Smith. We have some forwards who could play the 4th line (especially if Lias and the orgnazation has mended a bit) and the team might want Staal around for one more season for his leadership. I agree Smith might have some minor trade value this summer given his versatility and only 1 year left.

If they do any buyout I think most likely would be Staal. They’ll have Nils, Miller, Hajek and Rykov, and maybe even more possibilities, as the 5-6 dmen. Staal has nowhere to play and they’ll need some money.

Smith is still valuable as the 13th forward or 7th D imo, so I doubt he’s gone

Hank obviously would be my first choice, but that’s still up in the air as we know

If the cap does not increase, then teams like Tampa Bay will still be in trouble even with a single compliance buyout. I think they would make good trading partners with us to get a player like Sergachev to pair with Trouba or to obtain another young center. Trade will be costly, but our rosters align well to make a deal...

I want Cirelli bad. Gonna cost Chytil tho, which I would still do. I couldn’t pick a better fit of a player in the whole league for the rangers as far as a target goes. Ideal 2C, defensive shutdown guy, faceoffs and still young

It is a lot, and I still don't think its enough to move the needle for Tampa. Hope I'm wrong!

They may have to move him tho, him or sergachev. Both are prone to be offer sheeted. Although who knows what happens with contracts now with covid scenarios
